Fear of Flying: Overcoming Anxiety to Reach Achievement

3 weeks remain before returning to film my web series "We're Just Talking" and emotions that have been long removed revisit my mental campus. With the day nearing I can feel the different turns; excitement, curiosity, frustration, confidence, and many more sentiments stand tall before this big step. Above all of these looms a sensation that, more than ever before, poses a number of challenges: fear. Fear played an integral role in my development but not under its normal pretenses. For many, fear can serve as a detractor, hindrance, even a catalyst for ignorance. Dating back to my early years, fear (directly and indirectly) functioned as inspiration to be better.  A difficult "decision" has allowed King James to soar.. Running around as a youth in Morrisville, I was self conscious of my teeth (I looked like Bugs Bunny with a box fade). I tried to counter my appearance by being charming and cool, because I didn't want to be picked on. When I beca...

"I Just Like the Beat": Identifying the Future of Black Music

I'm beaming with pride this week as my brother Malcolm releases his first mixtape "The Rat Packt Adventure" with his group The Rat Packt . It's quite the accomplishment, and as a man familiar with the triumphs and tribulations of chasing your dreams, it makes me happy to see him dive right in. There are many lessons we'll discuss, a number of them being shared already. In this era, the s ong writing is no longer ...

Please Stop Wearing That: Trends the Opposite Sex Wish You Would Stop Following

Horrid. Appalling. Terrible. ABYSMAL. These are not adjectives describing my win-loss record on Madden (I'm nice on NBA 2K though). It's a reference to the disturbing fashion trends created, maintained, and perpetrated by my generation. As you look out your window, drive through the neighborhood, or shop at the local Super Fresh, you serve witness to god awful fashion statements that make you question yourself. Are these the descendants of Lena Horne, Dorothy Dandridge, Run DMC, Denzel, Halle Berry, Pam...Grier (say it slow, for emphasis)? Have you ever seen Elizabeth Taylor...Hugh Hefner...shoot, James Bond movies? I mention the previous, because these fashion "faux pas" know no race, and apparently no gender. In 2012, it is possible to see both women AND men be...as the kids say, "Ratchet!" .  There's a difference...one of these accessories needs to stay in the house. Looking at the stylish personalities of the 70s, 80s, and 90s, it mak...
