Looking For Love In All The Wrong Places: Supporting Brands That Don't Love Us

"We don't love them hoes..." Snoop Dogg, "Gin and Juice" The Doggfather's iconic line could easily double as the thought process of many prominent companies towards minority consumers. The past six weeks has served as a backdrop, or better yet a microcosm, for the intolerable behavior of mainstream companies towards people of color. The NFL has dominated recent headlines with their reactions to players kneeling in protest of police brutality and treatment of people of color in the US. The league, its teams, and owners forged to take a stance of sorts in response to recent criticism from President of the United States Donald Trump. Players and owners locked arms or knelt together to show a form of unity, despite the showing creating a clear detour from the original purpose of the protest started by former San Francisco 49ers quarteback Colin Kaepernick. Also this week, ESPN suspended anchor and co-host of "SC6" Jemele Hill for her personal Tw...

How To Be a True Fan (Specifically When Your Team Stinks)

Dear fans of terrible teams, my name is Cedric Perry and as a Redskins fan...I've been there. To quote a great gospel song, I've had some good days, I've had some weary days. It can be difficult to remain steadfast; to witness your team go through poor play, blowouts, and embarrassment can be rough. Through your struggle however, there is a proper etiquette to behave and pull through: It happens to all of us. 1. Don't lie to yourself- A famous quote of a loser fan is "We beat ourselves". Where's your dignity? Don't play yourself by talking trash on someone else's squad when your team is in the same or worse position. 3. Maintain a sense of reality- You'll get through this, whether it's this year or in 5-10 like Ol' Otis says....

Being the guy in a new relationship is like...a rookie entering the NFL. Though you've done this before, each time you play for a new team (female), there is more at stake. You bust your butt in the pre-draft workouts (dating), say all the right things in interviews, and get drafted (boyfriend status). Play well, and everyone takes notice (ex-girlfriends, girls you were talking to, and girls you wish you met while you were single). No one, however, is happier than your team, because in the league, all they are playing for is a ring (wedding). The immediate success of RGIII is similar to what most  new boyfriends seek to have in their relationships. For me, I finally made it to the league. Highly touted as a charming guy with a nice personality and  ability to throw deep (literally and figuratively), critics still questioned my toughness. In addition, many ladies subconsciously debated my ability to be a franchise player, the guy that would p...
