So When Are You Gonna Let Me Take You Out? A Cool Dude's Guide on Date Selection and Date Rejection

"Sooooo...when are we going to hang out?" (Ed. Note: Don't ask a girl, "When are we going to hang out?" What is this, Glee? Be a man and ask her to go out! Ced P ) Screening through Facebook last night, I found an interesting quandary posted by a high school friend of mine. In speaking with an associate of the opposite gender, she was questioned on when they could spend time together; from his tone (or smiley faces, if sent through text) she gathered he had intimate intentions. She of course possessed no interest in this man and in her account never gave off the impression that she did. Curious about how she should handle this situation, she took to the (Face) book and asked her friends how she should tell this unknowing gentleman it "ain't going down". Based on what offer on the table, it may not be best to go on that "harmless" date. Female readers, I'm sure many of you experience this situation in some form or fa...

Late For Twerk: Our Infatuation with Beauties Bent Over

Twerking .  With its recent explosion to mainstream media, just the mere mention of the word causes a multitude of opinions and emotions. It has become a pastime of sorts; women can now do the dance for leisure, recognition, or even income. Their public displays are an enigma; they can simultaneously  be enthralling yet demeaning and embarrassing; though the dance can be considered in many ways classless, it is also incredibly erotic and very hard to ignore.  This sight causes more hypocrisy in men the political office. I commonly find myself torn on how I feel about twerking.  From an early age, my elders taught me not only to treat a lady with respect and act chivalrous, but seek women who acted with class themselves. Despite this, it would be deceitful to state that watching a woman (especially a nice-bodied woman) gyrate is not arousing. Men love this ability for a woman to express her sexuality to almost degrading levels; we just desire that in re...

No, Do NOT 'Obey Your Thirst': The Problem With "Cyberpimping" and How To Avoid It.

In 2013, with the number of successful, beautiful, and eligible ladies still being in men's favor, brothers continue to embarrass themselves in an effort to secure women's affection. I blame Sprite. For years, the popular soda brand acted as an accomplice in men being overly hype in their pursuit of females. They urged us to show no discretion and tact in our approach with the utterance of three simple words: "Obey Your Thirst". While the catch phrase helped  Sprite (and its parent brand, Coca-Cola) acquire buku billions, it led many a gentleman to the proverbial waste side. Over time, this quote has been taken out of context and influenced men to allow their sexual and emotional desires to steer their line of thinking, an action that can result in catastrophic consequences. (In the voice of Rakim) Thinking of a thirsty text... Though my reference to Sprite is made in jest, I am genuine in my concern for some of my gender's behavior when looking...

The Facebook Playbook

Facebook, you slay me. While I'm sure I should be doing some work or budgeting, it's always cool to check out what the happenings are on my News Feed. "The Book" is slightly more family-friendly than Twitter, and you get to see the videos and pics a bit easier. The site, however, has its cons. Spam photos, over-dramatic statuses, over-dramatic people, and young people cursing like they have NO...HOME...TRAINING greatly damper the website.  Despite these hurdles, there are ways to maximize your experience on Facebook. In an effort to assist in this process, we asked our Facebook AND Twitter friends to give us guidelines they follow on the social network. Below is a list of behaviors that people (maybe you) indulge in too commonly and potential solutions (we're solution-oriented here at "Confessions".)  So grab a notebook, and like good House music, follow me . Special thanks to my homie Chris da Drumma, Sam (Blegh! Lol), Aunt Wanda, Latoya, and...

Greek Life: The Ultimate Social Network

Hello team; long time, no see! Things have been hectic, but I'm back for y'all. Over the weekend, I talked with my brother and good friend, Dev aka The Uber Manuever. We discussed the usual: girls, NBA Eastern Conference standings, doritos, and Facebook. Midway through this convo, however, we talked about our personal network: black greek fraternities and sororities. In my (gulp) 3+ years as a member of Alpha Phi Alpha (Fraternity INCORPORATED!), I've obtained many friends, and in some instances, "followers". Though in NO WAY, SHAPE, or FORM is anyone a celebrity because of their "greekdom", you do receive a certain amount and privileges from your affiliation. One such benefit is the instant connection with anyone who crossed the "Burning Sands". I've shaken hands with fellow Alpha Cornel West, received a Christmas card from Tom Joyner (Omega Psi Phi) and shared a laugh with Sigma Dwayne Ashley from the Thurgood Marshall Fund. Besides ...

In a Relationship (What's Your Status?)

I've had a couple conversations with both sexes about posting their relationship status on social networks. With the large number of brothers trying to secure women online, it appears to be...well, a "trending topic". In the society we live in, pursuing romantic interests online is now considered a viable option. Reminiscing over personal arguments with my girlfriend about the subject, I know it can cause issues in a relationship. Now stepping back and analyzing, there are strong arguments from all angles. For the female in an undefined situation (aka "talking"), I understand; there is no status made for you yet lol. You are not fully committed, but you are not looking to add any more contestants. Men SHOULD have no qualms with you, but like Facebook, it's still hard for us to process that request. Please give this consideration when receiving advances. Ladies (and fellas) in a full-blown relationship, despite the privacy you seek on a SOCIAL network, it ...
